Privacy Policy

tone2emoji ("tone2emoji," "we," "our," or "us") is an assistive communication tool designed to help users interpret conversational tone. This Privacy Policy explains what data we process, why we process it, and your choices.

1. What tone2emoji does

tone2emoji analyzes vocal tone in real time and shows visual feedback across modes such as Symbol, Map, Signal, Minimal, and Colors. It is designed for communication support, not surveillance.

2. Audio data and real-time processing

  • Audio is processed in real time to generate transcription and tonal inference.
  • Raw audio is not stored or recorded on our servers.
  • Raw audio is discarded immediately after analysis is completed.
  • We do not sell audio data.

3. Permissions we request

tone2emoji requests only the permissions needed for core features:

  • Microphone: required to capture speech for tone analysis.
  • Speech Recognition: required to convert speech to text for contextual tone interpretation.

If you deny these permissions, real-time tone analysis will not function.

4. Account authentication (Supabase)

We use Supabase Authentication for secure login and account access.

  • Primary account identifier: email address.
  • Authentication metadata (for security/session management) may also be processed.

5. Third-party processing providers

To provide analysis features, encrypted data is sent to service providers strictly for processing:

  • Encrypted audio/text chunks are transmitted to OpenAI and/or our private inference API for transcription and emotional inference.
  • Data is used only to provide the requested analysis functionality.
  • Data is not used for model training by default with OpenAI API services unless explicitly opted in by the customer.

6. Biometrics (Face ID / Touch ID)

If you enable biometric protection in the app:

  • Face ID / Touch ID is used only locally on your device to unlock app privacy controls.
  • We do not receive, store, or transmit biometric templates.
  • Biometric data remains managed by Apple's secure system on your device.

7. Data retention

  • Raw audio on our servers: zero retention (immediate discard after processing).
  • Account email/auth records: retained while your account is active, or as required for security/legal compliance.
  • On-device app data: remains on your device until you delete it or uninstall the app.

8. Security

We use reasonable administrative, technical, and organizational safeguards, including encryption in transit, to protect data processed through the service.

9. Your choices and rights

You can:

  • Revoke microphone/speech permissions in iOS Settings.
  • Request account deletion and associated account data deletion.
  • Contact us to request access or deletion where applicable law provides these rights.

10. Children

tone2emoji is not directed to children under 13 (or the minimum age required in your jurisdiction). If you believe a child provided personal data, contact us so we can delete it.

11. International data handling

Because our providers may operate in multiple regions, data may be processed outside your home jurisdiction with appropriate safeguards.

12. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy. We will post the updated version on this page and update the "Last updated" date.
